No one talks to anyone anymore.

People talk at each other. And nothing they say means anything. It’s all formalities and mundane topics to fill up the silence. People ask how you are and expect you to answer, promptly, “good, how are you?” They ask what you’ve been up to, but have no real interest in what you haven’t been up to or what you’d like to be up to. They want to know about yesterday or tomorrow. They’d like to meet up, have lunch. Talk about nothing while eating next to nothing and leaving the entire experience with exactly nothing.
